Golden Spatula
The Golden Spatula is Schenkein's annual “Taste of Schenkein” event,
which gives staff a chance to show off their baking/cooking/roasting, toasting/buying
or slicing/dicing food preparation skills while also raising money for
a local nonprofit organization. Entries are submitted in the categories
of Babaghanoush, (any dish originating from another country) Appetaster,
Apron Strings, (any dish you buy or your mother makes) Smorgasbord, (any
main entrée dish) and Sweet Tooth. After staff members purchase “tasting
tickets,” they sample and vote on their favorites. Winners are awarded
a unique prize - a spatula! The entry with the highest overall score wins
the coveted Grand Golden Spatula, giving one lucky staff member bragging
rights for the entire year. All funds raised through the sale of “tasting
tickets” go directly to an agency- chosen charity. The Golden Spatula
event encourages staff to live its value of community contribution, while
also engaging in some friendly competition and delicious taste testing.
